Through our Meet Your Match program, we try to find the perfect dog for the perfect home.
This is our first success story!
Read this heartfelt story written by the new owner.
On September 12, 2014 I lost my faithful Beagle companion of eleven and a
half years, Amos, due to an unforeseen medical condition. I was devastated and totally lost in grief, as
was my thirteen year old Bichon, Isaac.
It broke my heart watching Isaac looking all around the house for Amos
everyday. I decided then that I must
find another Beagle companion for both of us.
I started the process by searching the area Humane Societies online but
they did not have the dog I was looking for.
I wanted an older medium sized Beagle.
I didn't know what to do next but continued to search and finally came
across K-9 Connection's Meet Your Match online questionnaire. My spirits were raised as I completed the
questionnaire and read the bottom line "K9 Connections will work with
you to locate your best match, using our resources to assist you in finding
your canine companion. The final decision as to which dog you choose is totally
up to you and entirely YOUR choice."
To my surprise, I received a
phone call from Sandra at K-9 Connection's Meet You Match within 24 hours of
completing the questionnaire. Sandra
offered to help me find the right match and explained that she would network
with Rescue groups to find MY Beagle. I
was so happy to receive this help.
Within the next few days Sandra sent me several links to various Rescue
Groups that had older Beagles looking for their forever homes, one of which was
HART (Highland Animal Rescue Team), who had an eight year old Beagle named
Hudson in a foster home located in Trenton. From his pictures and his Biography,
he was just the Beagle companion I was looking for. In order to adopt Hudson I had to go through
HART's screening process which includes four steps; submission of an
application (questionnaire), a telephone interview, Vet and personal reference
check and a home visit from a HART volunteer.
My husband and some of my friends teased me about the process as if I
was adopting a child, but I told them that is what people who really care about
animals will do and that I was so impressed by HART because of their
process. It is great there are people that care so
deeply.
Although at the time it seemed to be taking forever and I was quite anxious about being approved, in reality the whole screening process only took fourteen days.

On the morning of October 1st, I drove to Trenton for my 'Meet and
Greet' with Hudson and I was under no obligation to adopt. As soon as I met him, I knew he was meant for
me. I took him for a short walk and then sat and talked with his foster Mom. It is so helpful to be able to meet your new companion in a loving
stress free environment and to learn from their foster Mom any idiosyncrasies
they may have. Hudson was great in the
truck on our drive home. He was greeted
at the house by both Isaac and our cat, Tigger, as soon as I opened the
door. They all got along great, I could
not have been happier.
I would never have found Hudson without the help of K-9 Connection's Meet Your Match. Words cannot express my feelings or my thanks
for all the help and support I received.
You have earned my admiration and respect for the great work you do in
helping wonderful animals find homes, and healing broken hearts. Finally, to Amos; you may be gone, but you will
always be remembered and loved. Mom's heart just got a little bit bigger to
make room for Hudson too.
